Information for Parents

Parental Involvement

Chestnuts Pre-school is a charity run by a voluntary committee of parents whose children attend the pre-school. As such, we are unable to operate without your help and support and parents are as much a part of our pre-school as their children.

It is important for your child that you take an active part in your pre-school in any way that you can.  You may be able to share a special skill or interest such as music, carpentry, animals etc with the children.

Parents are welcome to join us for a “Stay and Play” session once your child is settled with us. We feel that this provides parents/carers with a valuable opportunity to be involved with their child’s education and to be part of the group.  You can see your child ‘in action,’ find out what we do and why, and speak to your child’s Key Person if they are available. We welcome parents, grandparents, or other close relatives. This will give you an insight into how your children develop away from the home environment. (Restrictions currently apply due to Covid-19.)

Settling Your Child into Pre-school

Children starting at Chestnuts are allocated a Key Person who will be the first member of our team to build a special bond with your child, this will start from the home visit. They will be there for your child’s first few sessions and the majority of sessions that they attend. Your child will then have a trial session with a parent staying with them before they start at Chestnuts.

Childminders

We can provide details of local childminders that drop off and collect from Chestnuts. Please let us know if you would like their details.

Emergency and Short Notice Closures

If we need to close due to unforeseen circumstances e.g. extreme weather or damage to the building we will communicate this to parents as soon as we can, usually by email.

In the event of adverse weather, we will follow the lead of Wokingham Borough Council and Hawthorns Primary School. If they are closed, we may also make the decision to close.
